Why the new SIL registration rules are actually good news

Let's be honest, compliance isn't exactly the most exciting topic.

But every now and then, a change comes along that's worth talking about because of what it means for the people who matter most, the participants.

From July, Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers will be required to become registered with the NDIS. On the surface, it sounds like another industry update. In reality, it's about giving participants and families greater confidence when choosing who to trust with their home and their support.

Registration means providers are independently assessed and held to nationally recognised standards. It's another layer of reassurance that the right systems, safeguards and quality measures are in place, not because participants ask for them, but because they should already be there.

At Australian Quality Care, we see this as a positive step for the entire sector.

We've always believed quality care is about people first. The smiles, the independence, the everyday wins and the relationships built over time. Behind all of that, though, are the policies, governance and accountability that help make those moments possible. They might not be visible, but they're incredibly important.

The new registration requirements simply reinforce what participants deserve to expect from every SIL provider, a commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.

For us, nothing really changes. We'll continue doing what we've always done, creating homes where people feel supported, respected and empowered to live life their way.

If these changes make it easier for participants and families to choose a provider with confidence, then we think that's something worth celebrating.
